The Dos and Don’ts of Dining Room Layouts
The countdown for Thanksgiving dinner has begun! Is your dining room layout ready to host a big feast? Here are the Dos and Don’ts of dining room layouts.
DO use comfortable dining chairs.
Sometimes, the importance of comfort on dining chairs gets overlooked. Especially, if the dining room is the most used space in your home, comfortable dining chairs are a must. You want your family and guests to be comfortable while enjoying a meal or playing board games.
DON'T purchase the wrong size area rug.
The general rule is that your rug should be large enough to ground the table and all of the chairs when they’re pulled out. You want to avoid pulling out a chair and find half of it on the rug and the other half on your bare floor.
DO incorporate accessories to your dining area decor.
Accessories include artwork, flower arrangements, candles, and even table linens. They personalize your dining space and create a cozy atmosphere.
DON'T use bright lights for your dining room.
Bright lights can ruin the ambience for your dinner parties. Even for daily meals with your family, you want a relaxed, low-lit space while dining. Install dimmers or pendant lighting for a more calming dining experience.
DO include storage in your dining room.
A buffet cabinet, dining room hutch, or even a small ball cart – if you’re working with a small space – is great to store plates and utensils, cocktail and wine glasses, table linens, or your fancy serving dishes. Storage in your dining area helps avoid extra trips to the kitchen.
