The First 5 Steps of Decorating a New Home
Take your time. Especially if this is your first home, take your time when decorating. Spend time in your space, observe the natural lighting in each room, and explore different design styles.Â
Invest in the big ticket items like sofa, beds, dining table, washer and dryer, etc. Especially if this is your first home, these things should be moving with you to your next home. Your goal is to invest in items that you know will last for more than five years.Â
Upgrade your lighting. If you’ve been renting for sometime, then you know you have had no control over the lighting fixtures. But in your new home, you now have the chance to create the ambiance you want. Chandeliers and recessed lighting, you can do it all.Â
Kitchen essentials. Purchasing a new home is the perfect excuse to buy new glasses and dinnerware. Splurging on kitchen essentials, like serving dishes and pots and pans, can make all the difference in your new kitchen. Keep it simple and classic, a design that won’t look dated in a few years or a color that you’ll eventually grow out of.Â
Add your accessories last. Get to know your new home before piling on the accessories. Don’t break the bank on the small things, like knick-knacks, kitchen towels, bath towels, toss pillows, and throw blankets. If you like to refresh your accessories, according to the season, then purchase your accessories from vintage shops, ebay, etsy, craigslist, etc.Â
