Move Your Home Office Outside
Remote work doesn’t mean you have to confine yourself to your sofa or a cold and lifeless bedroom. There are many creative things you can do to transform a boring space into a charming home office. If you don’t have a spare room, you can carve out a corner in your living room or dining room, or the hallway closet. You can even take your home office to the great outdoors! We live in California, so let’s take advantage of the beautiful weather. Here are 5 design tips on how to build a beautiful and efficient outdoor home office.
Define you outdoor workspace with decor.
It’s important to define your workspace space so you can keep it clean, organized, and away from pets or kids. Large planters, a low fence, or an outdoor rug are just a few of the many decor items you can use to outline the perimeter of your outdoor office. Pre-made sheds also make a great workspace.
Don't forget about comfort.
Working outdoors doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the comfort of ergonomic office equipment. If you are working in a pre-made shed, it’ll be easy to incorporate a desk and an office chair. But if you don’t have a concrete or stable ground that can hold your rolling office chair, then add extra pillows on an outdoor chair that can help you sit up straight while working. If you plan on working on a regular outdoor dining table, use a standing desk riser so you can adjust the height to your needs.
Create plenty of shade over your work station.
If the sun is shining directly behind you, it can produce a glare on your laptop screen that will distract you from working. An overhead sun shade will prevent you from getting sunburn and will also keep your laptop from overheating.
Boost your wifi.
Make sure your wifi is powerful enough to reach your outdoor space. If not, upgrade your wifi so you can work from outside.
Incorporate outdoor safe power strips or a solar portable power bank.
You’ll want fully charged electronics while you’re working. Avoid low batteries by hooking up an outdoor safe -weather proof- power strip. If you have an electric unit outside, install a weatherproof outlet cover on it for safety. Or use a solar portable power bank that will allow you to hook up your laptop and phone.
